Captain, We’re Sinking is one of those bands that has been flying under the mainstream radar for quite some time while at the same time strengthening their hold on the underground, which is probably the way to go for them. Not content merely banging out power chords over fast as fuck drums, these guys excel at combining simplicity with subtlety ending up with a sound that holds its own between Propagandhi, Lawrence Arms, Braid and a less dramatic Brand New.

Opener “Adultery” gets to kick things off and does so with a metallic edge. From there on, the songs just keep on coming at you and hit you over the head with lyrics about prescription drug abuse, troubled families and suicide. “The Future Is Cancelled” is both melodic and energetic yet not overly so and it benefits as much from those two traits as from the smart lyrics.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
