“How The Gods Chill” is Cold World’s first new album since 2008 and fuck me, it’s an absolute monster!

The intro sounds like something we’d find on a Nas album and builds up nicely to “Blind” and “The Real Deal” which take us straight back to Biohazard circa “Urban Discipline”. “Never Knows Best” sounds like it belongs on Life Of Agony’s “Ugly” while “Cracks Of Hate” throws some more badass riffs your way before dropping into a hip hop breakdown featuring NY rapper Meyhem Lauren. More guest appearances come courtesy of Blacklisted’s George Hirsch (“Omega”), Kool G Rap (“Hell’s Direction”) and Max B on the outro.

Halfway through the album we come across “Never”, a tasty slab of hardcore with some stoner rock influences and a sweet solo to boot. Cold World then proceed by cranking up the tempo on “Find Your Way”, “Omega” and the splinterbomb that is “Youthful Expression 2014”. There are a lot of different things going on here yet somehow Cold World somehow found a way to wear their collective influences on their sleeves, while at the same time coming up with a style that is all their own where everything ties in together nicely. I don’t care how they do it but their mix of hardcore and hip hop flair is bar to none and it makes “How The Gods Chill” one of the best albums I’ve heard this year.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
