To be perfectly honest, I hadn’t heard of Free Children Of Earth before. I do however know these dudes’ previous bands. Guitarist/vocalist Jason Yawn has been in Trial By Fire, guitarist Mike Schleibaum in Darkest Hour, bassist Kevin Lamiell in Majority Rule and drummer Andrew Black in The Explosion. Some line-up, right?

On “Terminal Stasis”, they seem determined to shake up the status quo with blistering hardcore punk and scathing lyrics about everything from ‘the genocidal roots of America’s founding to the environmental exhaustion invited by corporate greed’. Yes, I totally stole that from the bio sheet. Oh, and they inject their material with some much-needed rock n roll swagger. Always a plus.

Sure, you’ll pick up on some influences from their previous bands when you listen close enough. But most of the time, Free Children Of Earth sound like their own thing. What that means exactly? Remember those batshit crazy Canadians from Trigger Effect? Close enough! But then there’s the intro of “Scars Of Oblivion”, which made me think of Motörhead. Whatever though, the drums on this one are loud, the bass is thumpin’ thick and the riffs are so sharp you could shave with them. Badass!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
