The communication between the pilot and the gunner apparently leaves a lot to be desired seeing as it’s already been eight years since we last heard from them. These New York natives are back now though with a new album called “Guilty Guilty” and it’s a pretty solid release.

Falling somewhere between the cold, clinical sounds of post-punk and the more jangly, melodic nature of indie rock, Pilot To Gunner does a great job of letting their influences run free with some additional post-hardcore aggression clawing for the surface. Opener “LA” comes with a catchy chorus, the bongos in “High Command” are just plain awesome and the female vocals that pop up in “Cardiac Event Planner” help lift the song to the next level.

Just like Fugazi, Pilot To Gunner is open for experimentation without letting it get in the way of writing memorable songs that will leave you wanting more. Here’s to hoping they won’t leave us wanting another eight years though!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
