Remember the Sainte Catherines? Sure you do. They were a solid Canadian punkrock band. I said ‘were’ because they called it a day. Luckily, vocalist Hugo Mudie is already back at it with a new band called Powernap.

These guys just released a six-song EP called “Oreosmith”, which was written and recorded in a month. If you can picture the Larry Arms with a singer whose vocal chords are about to go on strike because they won’t stand for the abuse any longer, then you are pretty close. The songs range from decent to good, yet still lack that certain je ne sais quoi (they’re from Quebec, they’ll understand) to make them truly memorable. Would like to hear more from them in the future though, because if you can write a song like “Live Slow, Die Whenever”… well, you got my attention!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
