One of the side effects of drinking too many beers, is that you say ‘yes’ a lot quicker than you normally would. Which is how members of Dan Padilla, Madison Bloodbath, Dear Landlord and Gateway District started Shallow Cuts. And while drunk decisions aren’t always the best, this one turned out alright.

“Empty Beach Town”, the band’s debut full-length, is filled with the kind of songs that take up that sweet spot between punk rock and power-pop. All twelve songs are instantly familiar, catchy as hell and energetic to boot. Taking a page or two from the likes of Latterman, Iron Chic, Banner Pilot and Sinkhole, these are the kind of songs you want to wake up to as well as end your day with. In other words, Shallow Cuts might not be terribly original, but they sure are good at what they do!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
