UK punk act The Run Up announced they will be releasing their debut self-titled album on November 15th via Real Ghost Records. While they were at it, they also shared the video for first single "WKND". The band will be playing Fest this year so make sure to catch them there. Here's a short interview we did with bassist Daniel.

PRT: For the people out there who haven’t heard you guys yet... what should they expect from your self-titled debut LP?

Daniel: Shouty pop punk about lost friends and dead cats, mainly. Other subjects do arouse too. Some pop bits, some sad bits…We are really happy with it hopefully other people will like it too!!

Lots of twiddly riffs too. Its Charlie’s first record with us and he likes a shred.

PRT: And for those who have already heard your previous releases… how does the new album compare to your older work?

Daniel: I think it’s a little poppier in places but I think its juts a natural progression from our previous releases. Larry gave up smoking before we recorded so his voice is a little cleaner which suits the music I think.

I have no idea how to describe our sound, that’s why I always just say ‘shouty pop punk’… Original, huh?!

PRT: Can you tell us a little bit more about the video? Where did the idea for the video come from? And why did you decide to release this particular song as a single?

Daniel: The song is about working all week to get out on the weekend and have fun with friends. All the live footage came from the recent tour with our buddies Uberyou; we all worked every day, drove to the shows after work in the van, drank, partied, danced and had the best time… And the drove home, got in at 3am, got up for work at 6am, worked and then did the same again and again. But it was so much fun.

The other clips represent good times in summer, hanging out with friends. We felt it fits in the lyrics: “We will soon be overheating but the laughter will be flowing” from the track.
In terms of the song choice… I think mainly because it’s not really like anything we have written before so stood out to us. It wasn’t a clear-cut decision as what would be the first single would be. But we went with WKND in the end.

PRT: You will be playing at Fest this year… what are you most looking forward to about the whole thing?

Daniel: Where to start?! We are doing a small tour down to Fest with our pals Wolves & Wolves & Wolves & Wolves so super stoked to meet up with them again; such an amazing band and the best humans.

Then there is seeing so many friends who I only get to see at Fest. And friend’s bands… So many amazing people making amazing music, its ridiculous. Bike Tuff, Bong Mountain, Sketchy, Awkward Age, Edmonton, MakeWar, New Junk City… the list is endless!

And then bands who I’ve never seen before who I’m super excited about, Spanish Love Songs, Seagulls, Laurate, Cranker Blossom, The Scandals… So yeah, lots!

Also, the fact that I am going to be in the company of the people I am fortunate to play in a band with. There is not a bad bone between them all so super stoked to driving around, playing shows and just having a good time with friends. Oh, and making new friends and buying records, of course!

PRT: The album doesn’t officially come out until Nov 13, but can people possibly pick it up at Fest already?

Daniel: Yes! We will have limited copies with us for our US tour and Fest. They will include a special insert too. Come see us and say hi!
