Teenage Bottlerocket recently announced they will be releasing a covers album on Fat Wreck called "Stealing The Covers", but judging from the last question they have even more up their sleeves. Which is a good thing, because you can never have enough Teenage Bottlerocket in your life. The band gets to call Laramie, WY home, a city we know next to nothing about. About time we caught up with guitarist/vocalist Ray Carlisle to ask him some questions about his hometown.
PRT: What made you first fall in love with the city?
Ray: I actually love the cold winters. Snowboarding rules!
PRT: If you had to come up with a marketing slogan for the city, what would it be?
Ray: “We don’t give a shit what time you have to work in the morning.”
PRT: Best place to play?
Ray: 8 Bytes downstairs. It’s a barcade. All ages and they serve booze. What more could you want?
PRT: Best place to go for a late night drink after the show?
Ray: The Roughed Up Duck. We have some good friends serving drinks here.
PRT: Best place to go for a late night snack after the drink after the show?
Ray: Almanzas Mexican food. It’s open 24 hours and they do it right.
PRT: Best touristy thing to do in the city?
Ray: Check out beautiful downtown Laramie. Eat at Jeffery’s, get a beer at the Buckhorn.
PRT: Best hidden spot in the city?
Ray: The Laramie Skatepark. You can find it next to the smelly lake.
PRT: One thing you would like to see changed in the city?
Ray: I’d like to see more taxi cabs and uber drivers. I’m getting sick of walking home.
PRT: What's your best memory about the city?
Ray: My son Milo being born at Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Things were never the same, things were better.
PRT: Is there a historical fact about your city that makes you chuckle?
Ray: You can still bring your horse on Prexie’s Pasture in the middle of campus (University of Wyoming) to graze. That’s weird to me.
PRT: Favorite song about your city you'd like to share, either yours or someone else's?
Ray: Goin Back To Wyo’ – A Teenage Bottlerocket song that will be out in less than a year. We recorded it at the blasting room about a month ago. “Wyoming beat BYU” is my favorite lyric in the song.
