There’s no need for calling Strike Back subtle or layered. It is what it is. A non-stop action show that throws in sex scenes every chance it gets.
Whereas it seemed that Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester) was written out of Section 20 at the end of the first season as he retired from active duty to be with his wife and child, he’s thrown back in the game after his wife is murdered by Curtis Hanson (Shane Taylor), a renegade soldier whose brother was killed by Stonebridge after he went nuts during a training exercise.
It makes Stonebridge one pissed off dude who’s out for revenge while he’s hunting down this season’s bad guy, Conrad Knox (Game Of Thrones’ Charles Dance), a millionaire who wants to turn Africa into a world power by using stolen nuclear weapons as leverage.
There’s lots of other things going on as well yet they are all neatly confined to ten episodes. Nothing gets the chance to drag on and as soon as things seem to slow down, there is another gunfight or explosion waiting to happen. All shot beautifully on location in Africa, the second season of Strike Back is like riding a rollercoaster… non-stop thrills and a lot of fun!
