Let’s get right to the point… “Constellations” is an even better album than 2007’s “Messengers”. On what is already August Burns Red’s third album, everything is bigger, faster and more technical. Is it metalcore or melodic death metal? Who cares! Vocalist Jake Luhr still screams his lungs out while JB Brubaker and Brent Rambler tear right through everything with insane riffage. They swirl and shred away while the rhythm section seems to have no problem keeping everything together while sounding tight as fuck.

Luckily the clean vocals are kept to a strict minimum (“Indonesia”) while tracks like “Meridian” and closer “Crusades” give the listener a chance to catch a breath. A good thing, because there seems to be no stopping this onslaught of breakdowns and blistering speed. Just when you think no one in this genre is still able to amaze you, out comes August Burns Red with an album that shows amazing growth and is as epic as anything as I’ve heard in the past year.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
