Album Reviews
Colt 45 is a relatively young band out of the UK who released two EPs before signing a deal with Visible Noise. They have now released their debut full-length “The Tide Is Turning”, an album filled with 11 songs that are holed up somewhere between rock and pop-punk.
Musically things sound pretty good with some bouncy rhythms and sweet guitar licks lined up in every song. My problem with “The Tide Is Turning” are the vocals. Their singer tries to do the gritty thing like Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath but he sounds like he’s forcing his voice to do something it wasn’t made for. Plus, these guys need to seriously work on the vocal melodies, which are as basic as can be and have been used a zillion times before. The choruses are kinda okay but it’s especially in the verses that Colt 45 sound like they aren’t even trying.
I think there’s something there but they definitely need more time to refine their sound because right now it’s as unimaginative as their band name.
