Brisbane’s Columbus are following up on last year’s “Home Remedy” EP with their debut full-length, “Spring Forever”. The album comes with a dozen pop-punk songs that pair off catchy guitar licks and powerful drumming against gritty vocals that deal with rather typical pop-punk subjects like growing up and finding out what it is you want to do with your life.

While not exactly breaking the mold here, the songs are more than decent enough and the production job by Jay Maas makes everything sound extra crispy. Personally I could have done without the token acoustic song (“Nervous Wreck”) and lines like ‘if you’re a daffodil, maybe I’m making you wither’ (“Daffodil”). But if you are simply looking for a new pop-punk band who know their way around a good melody, you will find that there’s plenty to enjoy here.
