From New Zealand comes David Kilgour with his Heavy Eights in tow. For over 30 years this guy has been making music, first with The Steal and after that solo and in a myriad of other bands. “End Times Undone” sees him reunite with guitarist Tony de Raad, bassist Tom Bell, and drummer Taane Tokona for some new tunes following their collaborations in 1997 (“David Kilgour & The Heavy Eights”) and 2011 (“Left By Soft”).

His latest album is as jangly and pleasantly psychedelic as always but no matter how hard I try, none of the songs on here seem to stick. Things always start off promising enough with mellow rhythms, sweet melodies and Kilgour’s unassuming vocals but just when you want to go like ‘this is awesome!’ I feel my attention beginning to waver. For those of you who are looking for some fine background tuneage, look no further… “End Times Undone” will do the trick just fine. But I’m not entirely convinced by this one… it feels just a bit too casual to sweep me off my feet.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
