Rather than simply releasing a new full-length, Down will be dropping 4 EPs over the course of a year, each one focusing on a different aspect of the band’s sound. Not sure what that means because Down is always dark and heavy and I’m not sure there are any other aspects. But if the Purple EP – the first in the series – is anything to go on, we’ll be in for a treat.

After three full-lengths, it should be pretty friggin’ clear that Down is the band to look to if you’re into badass riffs. And that’s once again no different on songs like “Witchtripper”, “Open Coffin” and closing track “Misfortune Teller”. And over it all Phil Anselmo is still howling like a caged animal while being his usual cryptic self.

It’s going to be a hell of a good year for all of us Southern sludgy metal lovers!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
