Even though Downers only just formed late last year, these former members of Me Vs Hero, MOU and Ten Six Repeater already just released their second EP. “Noose” comes with three new songs and having said that, we have already covered my biggest problem with this EP. I want to hear more songs, dammit!

Opening track “Graze” comes with the kind of fuzzed out guitars and shrieking lead that the Smashing Pumpkins had a patent on in the 90ies. Luckily for us, the vocals are soft and dreamy and as a result, a lot more pleasant than Billy Corgan’s nasal squeals. “Erased” starts off with a mellow riff, before tearing into grungy sounds once again along with the introduction of a killer chorus. “Grown Out” rounds out “Noose” and is the fastest and loudest track of the bunch with a Nirvana-like intensity that almost drowns out the shoegaze-y vocals.

Downers are definitely showing a lot of promise on “Noose” and I’m hoping we won’t have to wait too long to hear more from these guys.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
