Didn’t Ex Friends release a full-length just a little while ago? They sure did, but that doesn’t stop these members of Plow United and Beach Slang to bust out four more tracks that take you a short road trip. Ever been in a car with someone who first can’t stop talking before falling asleep mid-sentence? That’s kinda what “Animal Needs” sounds like.

The EP opens with “Don’t Do It Like That (Do It Like This)”, which comes with a deliciously jangly riff that gets repeated throughout the entire song with some nice raw male/female vocals topping the whole thing. “Word Police” on the other hand is a short one-minute blast of punkrock before the band whips out a sax on closing track “Fadeage (City Inspector)”.

“Animal Needs” is short, sweet and shows a band that keeps on refining its sound while at the same time seeing how far they can stretch the whole thing. Ex Friends for now but I’m hoping it’s not too late yet to rekindle the friendship.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
