Following up on last year’s ‘One Day,’ Canada’s punk agitators Fucked Up are back with the logically titled, ‘Another Day’. Apparently each band member recorded their parts separately over the course of a single day. Which goes a long way to explain why ‘Another Day’ is the band’s shortest and most direct album to date.

It’s kinda crazy to think that a band called Fucked Up has now been around for well over 20 years. That’s over two decades of doing things their own way, carving out their own path, having a shitload of ideas and the persistence to see them all through. In that sense, giving themselves a time constraint in the studio is yet another experiment. Can they still pull off their multi-layered, multi-faceted, multi-whatever sound just the same? Turns out they can.

Songs constantly veer between hardcore, punk  and - in the case of the title track or the intro of ‘Paternal Instinct’ - something that comes straight out of a 70’s prog-rock album. Fucked Up still very much sounds like Fucked Up on ‘Another Day’, but the more approachable version.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
