Album Reviews
Handguns’ latest album starts off with a quote from Little Miss Sunshine, a deliciously wicked comedy that you should definitely watch if you haven’t already done so. Unfortunately it’s all downhill from there. Think of all the clichés you associate with pop-punk and cram them in one album. That’s “Disenchanted”.
Granted, the songs are well-executed. But would it kill any of all these newer pop-punk bands to introduce at least a whiff of originality? Instead you get ten songs that all come with the same rhythms, the same riffs, the same predictable breaks, the same whoa whoa’s and the same high-pitched whine as every other pop-punk band out there. It’s completely derivative.
“Disenchanted” is already the band’s third album and I honestly don’t think they’ve evolved since the release of the “Don’t Bite Your Tongue” EP. They seem content to write the same song over and over again. Disenchanted? Yeah, I’ll say.
