Another Big Explosion. Yeah, that sounds about right. On the LA-based band’s fourth album, Jr. Juggernaut pays tribute to the the tried and true sounds of Hüsker Dü and the Replacements along with more than a dash of Dinosaur Jr.

Over the course of ten songs, co-produced by the band’s own singer/guitarist Mike Williamson drummer Wal Rashidi, these guys dish out tasty slabs of relentless drums, solid riffage and tons of energy, eagerness and honesty. It’s the kind of sound that reigned the airwaves in the 90ies, but Jr. Juggernaut manage to make it sound fresh all over again. ‘Take Alone’ sounds like the gruff version of Goo Goo Dolls, opener ‘Come Break My Heart’,‘Hang On’ and ‘Lonely Boy’shine bright like the streetlights that shine overhead during a night drive,‘Inclined’ is the kind of song that Bob Mould hasn’t gotten round to writing yet, and closing track ‘Total Darkness’ shows they do brooding and ominous just as well.

Even though ‘Another Big Explosion’ is already Jr. Juggernaut’s fourth album, it is also an album of firsts. It’s the first to feature Noah Green on bass (from the awesomeness that are The Pretty Flowers) and their first collaboration with Mindpower Records. It is also one hell of an album.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
