Album Reviews
Is there anyone here who’s still eagerly awaiting a new release by Me First And The Gimme Gimmes? Yes? I see one hand up in the air way in the back. Well, they have a new collection of punked up covers out. No overarching theme this time, it’s a live album.
The band launched a search for a family willing to host the ultimate punk rock cover band at their event in collaboration with 91X in San Diego, and Madison's family won. That’s how come twenty years after Me First and the Gimme Gimmes ruined Johnny's Bar Mitzvah, they now get to blow it at Madison’s Quinceañera.
On the menu you’ll find everything from Black Sabbath’s ‘Changes’ and ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ to Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Good 4 U’ along with a couple of songs sung in Spanish. Obviously these guys can play the shit out of any cover, but the joke wore out years ago and the best thing about this album is the idea of them playing a birthday party. Everything else is just kind of meh.
