For some bands a 3-song EP is a nice way to introduce themselves. Hi, we’re (insert band name) and here a couple of tracks that we made… hope you like ‘em. Petrol Girls isn’t one of those bands, even if they modestly called their EP, “Some Thing”. In just under ten minutes they not so much ring your doorbell to say hello, but also trash your house and leave you completely bewildered and unsure of what just transpired.

This band out of South London describe their sound as feminist post-hardcore and while their songs are definitely ragers that rival any riot grrrl band in terms of intensity, they certainly don’t lack melodic parts. Think Bikini Kill meets RVIVR with a bit of At The Drive-In thrown in for good measure (“Separated”). Lyrically, they take a firm stance against sexism, but will dive into themes such as alienation and mental health just the same.

Keep an eye out for Petrol Girls. If this EP is anything to go by, we can expect great things from this bunch!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
