Album Reviews
One of Tiny Engines’ latest discoveries is called See Through Dresses. On “End Of Days”, this Omaha-based band proves to have one foot firmly planted in the present while the other lingers somewhere in the past. You’ll hear some Pixies and Sonic Youth influences in there, whereas “Big On Brains” really shows off the band’s shoegaze-y side. They tone it down for the slow burner that is the acoustic title track, before rounding out this EP with the very solid “Drag Scene”, which comes with a nice Dinosaur Jr meets Gin Blossoms kinda vibe.
See Through Dresses aren’t merely rehashing the past though. Whatever kind of noise they choose to run with, they always end up making it sound all fresh and shiny again. The dual male/female vocals are another plus. Even if I wouldn’t mind hearing bassist Sara Bertuldo more next time around.
