While The Spectors may be a relatively new band out of Belgium centered around Marieke Hutsebaut, their sound is not quite innovative. On their self-titled EP, they linger somewhere between shoegaze and dreampop. And while that has already been done like a million times, these boys and girls somehow manage to make it all sound fresh again.

Produced by former Editors guitarist Christ Urbanowicz, the four songs on here are catchy and come with the kind of guitar lines and hazy vocals that could serve as the soundtrack to a dream. A dream where you and your boyfriend or girlfriend are running through a field full of flowers. And the sun is shining in a way that makes everything look like you took a picture with Instragram using the Toaster filter. And… sorry, got carried away there. Anyway, check out single “Nico” (guess who that one is named after) and if you like it, make sure to pick up a copy of this EP because the other three songs are easily as worthy of your time.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
