Strange Relations is a three-piece from Minneapolis who just released the 4-song EP “Going Out” via Tiny Engines. It’s a mix of dream pop and post-punk that I wouldn’t label as overtly catchy, yet there’s something about these songs that makes them stick in your head.

Opening track “Drift” is poppy enough, but at the same times it has this agitated and restless quality about it that makes it pretty irresistible. “Ceremonies” is a more traditional dream pop tune that is ethereal and breezy with hazy Cocteau Twins-like guitars and probably my favorite track on here. Next up are “Predation” and “Weeknites”, two solid post-punk tunes that bring Sonic Youth to mind.

Apparently they are gearing up to release a full-length next year and based on “Going Out”, that’s definitely one album I’m already looking forward to.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
