Throw Shade is a new band out of Cleveland, OH featuring at least one member of Worship This!. Maybe more. Or guys from other bands. I’m not sure. You’d think that you could find everything on the internet, but apparently you can’t. Or maybe Throw Shade like it that way? And maybe that’s why they call themselves Throw Shade? Anyway, they recently released their first four-song EP, appropriately titled “EP”.

There isn’t a lot of info to find on their website, but it does state they play slacker-pop. And that actually sums it up nicely. I don’t know about you, but I’ve about had it with bands that claim to draw influences from just about everything but polka. These dudes however are content to simply write big hooks and catchy melodies while making sure their songs still pack enough punch. All four tracks have this easygoing vibe with the occasional guitar solo that will have Dinosaur Jr fans going ‘far out, dude!’ or ‘right on’. Not sure why but I always imagine Dinosaur Jr fans to sound like hippies. Maybe it’s simply J Mascis’ hair.

Anyway, I guess what I’m trying to say is that this is a solid EP.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
