Old Salt
6.0
Armed with a new rhythm section and a new guitarist, Valient Thorr is at it again. “Old Salt” is already the seventh album by these aliens who ended up stranded on Earth and well… it pretty much sounds like the ones before it. Only less inspired.
Most of the time these guys are content cranking out hard rock tunes that sound like they were conceived back in the seventies. Occasionally they’ll throw in a punky vibe like on opener “Mirakuru” or they will get downright funky (“Cut And Run”). Whichever way they decide to go, it always sounds decent enough, albeit never truly memorable.
Live, these guys are an absolute force to be reckoned with. On “Old Salt”? Not so much.
