Very Americans is a relatively new band out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania that consists of former members of Junction, The Commercials and Safari So Good. To be honest, I had never heard of those acts but apparently they’ve shared stages with everyone from Fugazi and Saves The Day to Cursive and BoySetsFire. Not that Very Americans sound anything like them on “Stereo Types”, their new 4-song EP.

These guys play the kind of soothing pop-rock that tries to tap from the same vein as Coldplay but with an additional indie-rock kinda vibe… if that makes any sense. It’s not entirely unpleasant but in the end it doesn’t really do anything for me. The moments where they rock out in “Without A Trace” and “Fast Planes To Rio” are too few and far between and they lack the grandeur of Coldplay to make the more restrained parts memorable.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
