You might know Lauren Denitzio from her years in The Measure [SA]. If not, you will get to know her soon enough through her latest band, Worriers. They just recorded a new album called “Imaginary Life” with Against Me’s Laura Jane Grace and damn, it’s good.

Worriers marks Lauren’s first time as the sole songwriter in a band and if that was cause for some mild stress, you will be unable to pick up on it here as she self-assuredly lets us glimpse into her life while being backed up by energetic, melodic punk tunes. Like the songs, Denitzio’s voice is warm and charming but can come with plenty of bite as well, like when she voices her opinion about police brutality (“Yes All Cops”).

It’s hard to pick favorites on “Imaginary Life”, which says more about the quality of the songwriting on here than about my indecisiveness. Worriers barrel through 12 songs in less than half an hour and don’t try to reinvent the genre in that time. They simply crank it up and rock out, which is fine by me.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
