Movies we are looking forward to…

Kingsman : The Secret Service

Based on the comic by Mark Millar (Wanted, Kick-Ass) and Dave Gibbons, Kingsman : The Secret Service looks like a fun James Bond pastiche with a lot of wit and violence. Colin Firth stars as a veteran spy working for a super-secret organization that recruits a promising street kid (Taron Egerton). But then Samuel L. Jackson pops up as a lisping tech billionaire with a squeamish aversion to the sight of blood and an outrageously deadly plan for combating climate change.

What We Do In The Shadows

Ranging in age from 183 to 8,000 and in appearance from adorably youthful to Nosferatu-crunchy, four vampire roommates try to get by in the modern world while being followed by a camera crew making a documentary. Clement and Waititi, creators of the HBO series “Flight Of The Conchords”, co-wrote, co-direct and co-star in what looks to be a fun movie.

Focus

Hey look, a movie starring Will Smith where for once he’s not trying to boost his talentless son’s career! That’s been a while! Smith stars as a con artist taking on an inexperienced apprentice (ah, missed a chance there… would have been perfect for Jaden!) in this comedy from the duo behind Crazy Stupid Love, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

The Lazarus Effect

Just like in 1990’s “Flatliners”, “The Lazarus Effect” is about a group of medical students bringing the dead back to life. And guess what? Shit doesn’t pan out the way they want it to. Sounds like it could be fun and if it isn’t, well… we can just stare at Olivia Wilde.

Movies we think could be good… or bad…

Jupiter Ascending

The new movie by the Wachowksi brothers is another sci-fi action flick that tells the story of Jupiter, a girl born under a night sky with signs predicting she was destined for great things. All grown up however, Jupiter is cleaning up other people’s houses and going through an endless run of bad breaks, all of which show she’s not exactly living up to her potential. That all changes though when Channing Tatum shows up as a genetically engineered ex-military hunter. This one sounds like it could go either way…

Movies we think are going to be shit but would like to be proven wrong about…

Seventh Son

This movie might have Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore going for it, but unfortunately also features witches, ogres and shape-shifting creatures. The trailer doesn’t look very promising either and actually makes “The Hobbit” look good.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Based on the book that everybody read ‘for the story’, this has all the makings of becoming the worst movie since “Showgirls”!

Hot Tub Time Machine 2

When Lou (Rob Corddry), who has become the ‘father of the Internet’, is shot by an unknown assailant, Jacob (Clark Duke) and Nick (Craig Robinson) fire up their trusty time machine again in an attempt to save their friend. The first “Hot Tub Time Machine” was way more fun than it should have been so I’m thinking this one can’t be anything but a let-down. Plus, no John Cusack this time.

Everly

Salma Hayek plays Everly, a woman who has to face down assassins sent by her ex (a mob boss), while holed up in her apartment. Somehow I’m thinking the movie poster (showing a topless Salma Hayek brandishing a machine gun) is about as good as this one gets.
