Costa Rican emo-infused post-hardcore band Cabeza de Agua (literally translated as “Water’s Head” but actually meaning “Flash Flood” in Costa Rican slang) recently announced their debut self-titled EP, out July 21 on Steadfast Records and available both digitally and on limited edition 7” (pre-order). Today, we are happy to premiere 'Pacuare,' one of the three songs on the EP that sees the band taking it back to 90’s acts like Orchid and Saetia.

“We found out that we all share a deep love for certain bands and sounds from the 90's and 2000's and that's pretty rare in such a small country as ours,” says the band’s Emanuel Mora. “So we started sharing song ideas and soon went to the studio and basically recorded everything live in a couple of takes. We wanted it to sound raw and to contrast the chaotic nature of the music with this kind of sweet, bright, hopeful lyrics, of course in our native language. so you can find that in there as well.”

Formed by Diego Cubillo, Emanuel Mora and Mauricio Alvarado, all active in other Costa Rican bands playing shoegaze (Adiós Cometa, Lentamente), hardcore (Contraflores, Mal Visto), and slowcore (Decora), the trio joined together around their love for the chaotic, emotive and heartfelt sound from yesteryear. The result is an intense EP that reinterprets their many influences in new, diverse ways, blending unusual pairings like ambient and spoken word into captivating and moving compositions.
