Somos guitarist Phil Haggerty passed away on August 10, 2019. He was 28.
In lieu of Haggerty's passing the band decided to release their upcoming new album, Prison On A Hill, early with all donations going to the family's funeral expenses. In an amazing response they were able to raise enough money for all funeral expenses to be covered + $3000 more, donated to The Heather Heyer Foundation.
The band has decided to leave the album up on Bandcamp for early download and release a new single from the album to coincide with physical pre-orders of Prison On A Hill.
Singer and bassist Michael Fiorentino said of "Mediterranean,"
"This song is about the ominous rise of the far right, both here in the U.S. and around the world. Phil came up with the groove for the chorus, and we built the song from there. The goal was to write a punchy and anthemic song that captured the sense of dread engendered by rising fascism."
Tiny Engines welcomed Boston's Somos back to the TE roster earlier this year. The label will release the band's third full-length, Prison On A Hill, in the Fall of 2019. The new album was recorded with Jay Maas (Defeater, Bane, Title Fight) in Boston this past Winter.
