Album Reviews
- by Tom Dumarey
Germany’s Beginnings got its start in 2016 when I Walk The Line's Ville Rönkkö got an urge to start writing songs in the vein of some of his favorite bands like Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, Pegboy and Jawbreaker. Later that year Beginnings had evolved into a full-fledged band that has now released a full length in the form of ‘Recover’.
Produced by Max Power (Turbostaat, Beatsteaks), these twelve songs sound great and come with plenty of energy and sweet melodies that sound like… well, like the bands mentioned above. Or Samiam on a song like ‘Same Old Glory’. Sure, this kind of sound is a tried and true formula that has been done before and Beginnings don’t quite yet measure up to their influences, but with songs like ‘All Or Nothing’ and ’40 Year Run’ there is plenty to enjoy on ‘Recover’.
