OFF!, the punk supergroup comprised of Keith Morris (ex-Black Flag, Circle Jerks), Steven McDonald (Melvins, Redd Kross), Mario Rubalcaba (Earthless, Hot Snakes), and Dimitri Coats (ex-Burning Brides), have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the final funds they require to complete Watermelon:The Movie, the feature film the band began work on in late 2016. Supporters can pledge via the Kickstarter campaign for rewards such as limited edition merch (including a never before used Raymond Pettibon design) and being in the film itself (the final scene is a concert that fans can pledge to be in the audience for).
 
Watermelon (the film) is a science fiction rockumentary comedy that picks up in Los Angeles five years after OFF! have disbanded. In an attempt to conquer his diabetes-induced erectile dysfunction, Keith Morris comes across a mind-altering medication extracted from mysterious watermelons. The drug not only restores his virility, it also gives him the ability to travel through space and time, prompting him to offer it to the rest of the group as a solution to their problems. Dimitri, Steven, Mario, and Dale find renewed faith in OFF! as the watermelon helps turn the band into hardcore heroes who can see and predict horrific events before they happen. When they turn to music, the group discovers a new experimental approach which not only redefines punk, but also becomes an underground movement. Many of the actors and musicians who have appeared in OFF!'s music videos (including Jack Black, David Yow, Dave Foley, Brian Posehn, Jack Grisham, etc.) are anticipated to participate.
 
Watermelon (the film) will be preceded by Watermelon (the album), slated for an early 2020 release on Vice Records. The story of the film, which evokes a modern day Repo Man, becomes a vehicle through which the band finds musical experimentation - similar to the way The Beatles filtered their creativity through the alter egos of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Among the many Kickstarter campaign offerings is being in the crowd to experience Watermelon: The Album in its entirety as a hardcore, mixed-media freakout when OFF! perform it for the final scene of the film.
