We are happy to premiere a new Singing Lungs song! Sounding not unlike Cheap Girls on a particularly bright day, ‘Present Tense’ is a no-nonsense, full speed ahead kinda song that serves as an excellent introduction to the band’s upcoming EP ‘Phone From Car,’ out July 17 via Count Your Lucky Stars (pre-order HERE).
Recorded from their homes using their iPhones during quarantine, Singing Lungs - now a four-piece since the addition of guitarist Jack Robidoux - have pieced together four new songs. In the vein of 90’s punk and indie rock with similarities to early Goo Goo Dolls, Lemonheads, and Smoking Popes, the band continues to push forward with a sense of urgency, melody, and introspection. With content ranging from navigating the ups and downs of life, the urgent need for creative expression in less than ideal circumstances, questioning overconfidence, and paying attention to yourself, ‘Phone From Car’ attempts to sort out moments in time in order to continue moving forward.
Lead singer/guitarist Jason Kotarski about the EP:
"Working on the songs on the EP came from this need for connection when everything had started shutting down. It gave us a reason to text back and forth all day long, to keep checking in on each other, to fight boredom and depression with creativity. Then, as things started to come together and we realized the songs were turning out better than the “demos” we expected them to be, there was this sense of urgency to get the songs out and connect with others beyond our little text chat. The songs are about being kind to yourself and poking fun at yourself and the need to put yourself out there so to me it serves as a good document of this time in our lives.”
Singing Lungs (featuring the drummer from Cheap Girls) is a punk-rock band that calls back to when acts like Lemonheads and Lagwagon were tearing up the small club circuit. Brash, gruff vocals soar over harsh palm-muting that quickly move to driving drums and distorted guitars. The 90s are alive and well in Singing Lungs.
