We are happy to share the video for 'Gaslighter,' the new single by Austin, TX emo pop-punks Halfway Atlantic (HWA). “Gaslighter” is a cover of The Chicks [formerly Dixie Chicks], as well as Halfway Atlantic’s first cover release. It tells the story of a duplicitous, opportunistic lover who abandons the narrator after he becomes a star. The lyrics resonated with HWA’s interest in the gravity of heartbreak. Hearing the potential for pop-punk crossover within this contemporary country/pop song, the Austin, TX-based emo band jumped at the challenge of adapting a different genre to their style, as well as the opportunity to upset gendered expectations of relationship dynamics. Furthermore, as singer Matt adds, "I admire The Chicks for being continuously progressive and outspoken on political and social issue, regardless of the consequences."

To celebrate the release, Halfway Atlantic will be holding an Instagram Live on Wednesday, January 26 at 9pm CST. They are also playing three Texas dates in February. Check out the dates below:

Founded by German singer/songwriter Matt Warmuth, Halfway Atlantic was recently featured on Spotify’s “NEW PUNK TRACKS” and labeled as one the artists to watch for 2021 by Frontstage Magazine. Their music is real, emotional, and honest, buoyed by strong pop sensibilities. Lyrically, their songs are a love letter to adolescence through the lens of adulthood—navigating the same challenges, but with higher stakes. In concert, HWA separates itself from other bands with explosive energy and stage presence, built on the foundation of a charismatic lead singer. Their stripped-down, dynamic live performance—punctuated with leaps, spins, grand gestures and crowd interaction—embodies the polar opposite of shoegazing.

HWA has a significant touring resume, members having toured extensively with acts such as The Used, Anti-Flag, Plain White T's, Senses Fail, and Silverstein.
