Don’t let the album cover throw you off, ‘Ripper!’ is actually a solid album.

Hailing from the bustling metropolis that is Northwest Denver, SACK is a new band of party punks who just released their debut album ‘Ripper!’ on Red Scare. Led by the inimitable Kody Templeman (of The Lillingtons and Teenage Bottlerocket fame), the band also features ‘a couple of shredders from Peru, a gym teacher, and the neighborhood electrician’. When they weren’t too busy trying to not get electrocuted, telling others to do pushups and whatever it is people from Peru occupy themselves with, they managed to bang out a dozen tunes worth of melodic punk rock about bongs, bikers, brothels and the Beach Boys.

If you are into Mr. Templeman’s other bands, Turbonegro or The Dwarves (or a combination thereof), you’ll find there is plenty to like on ‘Ripper!’. A song like ‘I Used To Give A Shit’ deserves a spot on your Bummer Party playlist, ‘Night Shift’ comes at you with way more energy than I could muster during an actual night shift and ‘Wet Banana’ is a PSA about a dangerous pastime   masquerading as a slick punk rock track.

If you are looking for a band to rewrite the punk rock rulebook, look elsewhere. But if you want nothing more than to sit back and relax with a beer (or a bong), SACK have got your back.
