Album Reviews
Formed over the pandemic by members of Swingin’ Utters, US Bombs, Roadside Bombs, The Beltones and Tiger Army, Hunting Lions arrived fully formed and immediately released two EP’s, ‘Light’ and ‘Dark.’ Both EPs, both of which are sold out and have now been combined to form the band’s debut LP.
The members’ experience is obvious from the second they rip into opening track ‘This City,’ an organ-enhanced song with a solid chorus and a Bouncing Souls vibe that deals with the changes that San Francisco went through. From there on, Hunting Lions don’t let up and deliver seething yet soulful punk rock ‘n roll. The Bruce Springsteen cover of ‘Hungry Heart’ doesn’t add much of anything, but with rebel-rousing cuts like the title track (which for some reason is abbreviated to ‘KOTA’), ‘Dead Generation’, ‘Little Girl’ and ‘Good Riddance,’ there is plenty to enjoy on here for fans of Bouncing Souls, Rancid and Youth Brigade.
