For their sixth album, Four Year Strong apparently entered the studio without any finished songs. If that is indeed the case, it explains why ‘Analysis Paralysis’ feels so disjointed. It comes off as a collection of half-finished ideas that were quickly whipped into something resembling a song. Opener ‘aftermathafterthought’ is a copy of a copy of a Nine Inch Nails track. ‘Bad Habit’ tries to couple a nu metal song to a Turnstile-like chorus and falls short. And those aren’t even the most disappointing tracks on here.

On ‘Analysis Paralysis’, the Massachusetts-based band have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at the songs. That is an interesting approach if you sort through them afterwards and lose what doesn’t feel good. A step that the band seems to have skipped. As a result, ‘Analysis Paralysis’ shows Four Year Strong at their most unfocused. And simply turning everything up to 11 can’t hide the fact that the songs just aren’t there.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
