Album Reviews
Charleston, SC’s Yes Flag - consisting of Devin McCurdy (vocals, bass), Ben Wroblewski (guitar, vocals), and Cletus’ drummer Scott Price - recently released their debut album, ‘Grand Bystander’.
Recorded by The Gamits’ mastermind Chris Fogal at Denver’s Black In Bluhm studio, ‘Grand Bystander’ comes with 16 slices of pop-punk that more than make up in enthusiasm what they may lack in originality. Except for one song, none of the other cross the minute and a half mark, making ‘Grand Bystander’ an exercise in short and to the point blasts of melodic energy. Luke McNeill of The Copyrights and Hospital Job fame mastered the whole thing, and as far as influences go, those two bands hit the mark pretty close, along with Fogal’s The Gamits. No-nonsense pop-punk done right.
