What began as a group of high school friends covering Misfits songs in Columbus, Ohio back in 2005, has since turned into its own thing. Coming at you with a mix of punk, metal and rock ‘n’ roll and topping it off with a dystopian, sci-fi-inspired lyrics, Prime Directive are set to release ‘The Fallout’ on Punkerton Records.

Listening to a song like ‘Power Trio,’ it becomes obvious that these guys like all things tongue-in-cheek and don’t take themselves too seriously. The opening riff in ‘The Last Starfighter’ also betrays that there’s also at least one serious Iron Maiden fan in the band.

It’s all decent enough and in good fun, yet Prime Directive didn’t manage to win me over. Blame it on the not quite stellar vocals, the unnecessary cover of ‘Don’t You Want Me’, the production job that makes everything sound flat or all three of those things.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
