Album Reviews
On ‘Ground To Dust’, Oh The Humanity! dish out their signature mix of lightning-fast melodic punk rock, complete with soaring choruses and technical guitar licks that would make many metalheads’ heads spin. If Massachushred was a subgenre in punk rock, Oh The Humanity! would play a big part in it. They are from Massachusetts and boy, can they shred!
With A Wilhelm Scream’s Trevor Reilly on production duties, these guys have recorded their most dynamic album to date with ‘Ground To Dust’. The great Denis Leary once told a joke about how Jean-Claude Van Damme came up to him and asked if the chair next to Leary was busy. To which Leary replied, ‘If it was plaid, it would be busy’. ‘Ground To Dust’ is definitely plaid. A melodic cut like ‘Love Irresolute’ is followed by the downright thrashy ‘Circumstances,’ complete with bloodcurdling screams and on songs like ‘Gutter’ or ‘Never Do Another’, there are so many riffs flying around that it’s hard to keep track of. In short: ‘Ground To Dust’ delivers everything that Strung Out’s latest album didn’t.
While not exactly an album that I can deal with in the morning, ‘Ground To Dust’ is most definitely a blast once you’ve had your caffeine fix.
