Jackson Hole, Wyoming’s indie punk outfit Box Elder may have started as frontman/guitarist Christopher Archuleta's solo endeavor during the pandemic, but it has since grown into a full band that has been touring the west coast, PNW and Rocky Mountain states consistently since. Today, we are happy to premiere the band’s new single, ‘Origami Bats.’
“Origami Bats is about how my friendships have changed over the last few years,” says Archuleta. “I lived in Salt Lake City from 2015 to 2020 and the title is in reference to my old house where my roommate made origami bats and strung them all through our living room. A lot of our nights were spent in that space with our friends smoking weed, watching documentaries and hosting shows. Since then our ages have begun to show, our lives have drastically changed and we've started to change our dynamics while trying to keep each other in our scope. This is a nod to all of the people that made that space so special.”
Drawing influences from both late 90's/early 2000's indie and emo bands (Built To Spill, The Get Up Kids, Death Cab for Cutie and The Anniversary) and modern day emo and pop punk bands (Tigers Jaw, Balance And Composure, The Menzingers and The Wonder Years), Box Elder has been bringing a unique approach to the pop-punk aesthetic by blending tight, high energy and roaring guitars with booming and ethereal synthesizers.
