Album Reviews
Nai Harvest is a UK duo consisting of Ben Thompson (guitar, vocals) and Lew Currie (drums) that likes to combine emo with indie rock.
Despite the depressing lyrics, opener “Rush” sounds decidedly upbeat thanks to the snappy drums and just the right amount of ‘oohs’. It segues perfectly into the twinkling intro of the title track, another song with a punchy rhythm and some sweet start-stop guitar lines that are another plus. “Pastel” comes with a bit of a grungy vibe and a nod or two to Small Brown Bike, before these guys round out this EP with “I Don’t Even Know”, another one with lethargic vocals that stand in contrast to the excitement contained in the music.
I’m liking what I hear here yet none of the songs are stuck in my head afterwards. Even after several listens, I’m having the hardest time recalling… well, anything. Nai Harvest are definitely onto something but I don’t think they’re at the top of their game just yet. I’m curious to hear what they’ll be up to next.
