After plenty of touring in support of 2011’s “Dying To Exonerate The World”, the guys in Counterpunch took their time to write new material. Three years later the wait is finally over and “Bruises” is finally out on Cyber Tracks, the label owned and operated by NOFX’ El Hefe and his wife.

“Guardrails” gets to open the proceedings and does so at a blistering pace with solid riffage and some nice three-part harmonies. And from there on the guys just keep on going with songs like the title track, “Young & Entitled” and “Peace Through Superior Firepower”. Sure, we’ve all heard Strung Out, Bad Religion or any of the other Epi/Fat Wreck bands of the 90ies doing pretty much the same thing but Counterpunch deliver their material with so much enthusiasm that it’s hard not to get sucked in. If you are like me and were disappointed by the new Rise Against, do yourself a favor and pick this one up!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
