Following up on 2013’s EP “I Couldn’t Face You” and their split with Have Mercy, Nashville’s Daisyhead have released their debut full-length, “The Smallest Light”, on No Sleep Records.

If you’re into the likes of Balance And Composure, Superheaven and Citizen, chances are you’ll dig Daisyhead’s take on 90’s post-hardcore/alternative rock with some slightly heavier riffs. These guys have a firm grasp on melodies and swirly guitar lines, which already becomes evident in opening track “Defenselessness”. The problem is that they do the exact same thing in “Lacking Basis”, “Need” and most of the other songs on “The Smallest Light”.

I really like this band’s sound but the lack of variation quickly tempered my enthusiasm. On the album’s final track, they keep on repeating the line ‘where do I go from here?’ A valid question. Hopefully in a direction with some more twists and turns. I’m pretty sure these guys have what it takes to write a damn impressive album, but “The Smallest Light” isn’t quite good enough.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
