Album Reviews
Four years after “Face The World”, the Belgian punkrockers that make up The Octopussys are back with a fresh batch of tunes that will instantly take you back to the heydays of Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Pulley and every other Fat Wreck/Epitaph band you listened to back in the 90ies.
The twelve songs that make up “Leagues Below” are chock-full of melody and pack plenty of energy. Kudos to guitarists Kevin Brondel and Jan Van Gulck, who are going all out on this one with slick leads and the occasional solo. These guys aren’t rewriting the Punk Rock Rulebook here, but that’s okay… why fix something if it isn’t broken? My only point of criticism is that while the rest of the band sounds as elated as a teenage girl at a One Direction show, the vocalist sounds more like that same teenage girl after she found out that the band went on a break. Something to work on for album number three, but The Octopussys are definitely on the right track with “Leagues Below”.
