On “Pinedale”, Cambridge, MA’s Northernmost crank out four new tunes that linger somewhere between Brand New and Balance And Composure.

Opening track “Greenbrier” slowly shuffles in before exploding in the chorus. There’s something about the way they get up in your face while at the same time keeping things nice and breezy, that just works. The fact that these guys seem to know their way around a catchy hook doesn’t exactly hurt things either. It’s a formula they stick to in “Milo” and “Cloudy”, before going out with another bang on “Afterglow”.

Northernmost isn’t reinventing the genre on “Pinedale”, but they did manage to write four catchy, atmospheric and rocking tunes that feel instantly familiar and deserve a wider audience than they are reaching now.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
