Black Trip started as an idea in 2003 between Peter Stjärnvind (Entombed, Merciless, Nifelheim), Joseph Tholl (Enforcer, Corrupt), Jonas Wikstrand as well as the two former Nifelheim members Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergebäck. Honestly, I don’t know any of those bands other than Entombed.

They felt it was a good idea to start a NWOBHM band… you know, the kind of band that gets a kick out of dual guitar lines that Iron Maiden had patented and where the bad haircuts and outfits make you raise your eyebrows. These guys also throw in some more bluesy Thin Lizzy licks here and there, making “Goin’ Under” a fun album that takes you back to an era where people actually still knew who Saxon was.

Black Trip do a good job of restoring the sounds of yesteryear even if I can’t help but wonder who is actually still waiting for a band to sound like this.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
