Album Reviews
Classic Pat is Patrick McVay of Ghost Party, The Putz and The Practice Run among others. Why start another project? Who knows. I mean, this is the same guy who not too long ago covered the entire La Bamba soundtrack as well as Tiffany’s debut album.
On ‘Won’t Back Down’, McVay bangs out ten bubble gum pop punk songs that harken back to the Lookout! Records era. There are lots of winks, nudges and nods to the Queers, ‘Sadie Hawkins Dance’ rivals Masked Intruder’s best materia and with ‘Do You Remember’ McVay delivers a solid take on a lesser known Beach Boys song. Lyrically, Classic Pat dishes out deeply philosophical ponderings about everything from girls and getting older to the Kevin Smith classic ‘Mallrats’. Nothing extremely original, but these songs are a helluva lot of fun and sound amazing.
