The Cut/Up is an indie rock band out of Amsterdam who dropped this 5-song EP a couple of months ago. It’s called “The Gateway Drug” and as soon as opener “Lost” kicks in, it’s not hard to pick up on some Hot Snakes, Les Savy Fav and Afghan Whigs influences. It’s just something about the way those bass lines rumble and how the guitars jab and sting while the vocals linger somewhere between singing and shouting…

It’s a sound the band sticks with on the other songs because let’s face it, bands can have worse influences than the ones I mentioned. They still have their work cut out for them though… at times the guitars seem to be off doing their own thing and clash with the vocals as a result while at other times they seem to disagree with one another and wind up sounding kinda jarring.  So yeah, The Cut/Up may not live up to its influences just yet, but there’s definitely something there.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
